The Golden Spike Ceremony at Promontory Point, Utah
On May 10, 1869 the last spike known as the "Golden Spike" completed the last section of track at Promontory Point that was needed to connect the Central Pacific to the Union Pacific. Originally, the ceremony was to be held on May 8,1869, but due to bad weather conditions and labor disputes the Union Pacific was delayed. Ultimately, three years and 1,775 miles of track later, the two crews made up of Chinese laborers came together helping complete the last section of track.
